- Is this site for a virtual university or just one college? What is iowalearns?
The iowalearns.org site is a listing of distance learning courses available from many different colleges and universities in the state of Iowa. (If you are from a country outside of the United States, Iowa is a state in the U.S)
- How much does it cost to take a course?
The cost to take a course is determined by the college or university offering the course for credit. Price per credit hour varies from college to college. Contact the college directly to get information about cost. You can find either a link to a contact person or to the college’s main page in each course description on the site.
- Are there degree programs available?
More and more colleges are working toward having complete degrees available via distance education. Right now degree information is not contained on the site.
You might try doing a search for your subject area and then contact the college(s) that are offering those courses. Ask the college(s) about their degree programs.
- Will my college accept this credit?
This is really a question for the college you are trying to transfer the credit to… and for the college you are trying to transfer the credit from. Talk to your academic advisor.
- Is there a printed catalog?
No. All the information is available on the site.
- How do I find a course?
There are several ways to find a course. All search methods are on the front page. The "quick search" screen will get you the most results. The word you use to do your query will result in a "result" if that word is used anywhere on the course page. For example, if you use the word "business" to do a search, you will have a result come back if the word "business" is used anywhere in the course description.
- How do I enroll?
Some colleges/universities offer on-line registration. Look at the information under "registration information" on the course description page. Clicking on that link will either take you to an on-line registration form, to the college main page, or to the registrar’s office. Any of which can help you.
